Nature, dense forests, clear blue waters and a hike to the mountains. This itinerary can attract thousands of visitors and all it takes for them to make a decision is to see for themselves the breathtaking view of Scenic Shijing Mountain.
This is a place filled with legends and superstitions, not surprising for a land with craggy mountains that pose a challenge to travellers. But despite all of the difficulty, Shijing is a city that is prosperous and filled with tourists and visitors from all over the world.
“The Rhinoceros Looking Up At the Moon,” that is the meaning behind the name of Shijing Mountain or Xiniuwangyue in the local dialect. The main tourist attraction of the mountain is the mountain ropeway which is placed in almost all tourist ‘must see’ spots in the city. Anyone who visits the city will experience for themselves the exhausting but exciting adventure of the mountain adventure.
Legend says that about a hundred years or more ago, there was a businessman who invited a geomantic master to choose a “lucky field” which would make him rich. They found a peak at the distance which looked like a rhinoceros head looking up at the moon. This caused the geomantic master to say to the businessman “as long as you stand on the mountain and face the sea making sincere wishes, and do good deeds, you will sure make a success.” The businessman followed the advice of the master and soon a flourishing business made him successful.
The Shijing Mountain is not just famous for the ropeways; there are also exotic stone landscapes that can be toured. These rocks are found all over the mountain and the sides and falls to the sea. When there, people see the start of the landscape looking like a galloping horse, the end of the landscape looks like several rivers opening to the sea.
Climbing the mountain, the hikers would see the wide expanse of pristine waters, islands dotting the horizon, the bay and the city laid out in front of them. The scene is like a fairy tale rising out of the mountain and sea with gardens interspersed in between.
